Spanish Profiles
A wine country on the up. Still turning out classics from Rioja and Ribera del Duero, and the much maligned yet super wines of Jerez. But there are new regions of note also; Yecla, Priorat and many more.
- Agro de Bazan (13/5/05) Two estates, with some very good Rias Baixas.
- Baron de Ley (25/7/01) This relatively young estate produces good new-wave Rioja.
- Bodegas Castaño (4/6/03) Flying the flag for Yecla is Bodegas Castaño.
- CVNE (15/8/06, updated 4/3/08) The Compañía Vinícola del Norte de España.
- Gonzalez Byass (21/12/04) A full range of Sherries from this respected bodega.
- Hidalgo (14/12/04) Fine wines from Sanlúcar de Barrameda.
- Emilio Lustau (7/12/04) A detailed profile of Lustau and the Almacenistas.
- Marqués de Murrieta (29/3/01, last updated 20/2/08) Stalwart Rioja estate.
- Muga (17/8/06) A leading family-run Rioja estate.
- Pesquera (4/4/02) Top estate of the Ribera del Duero.
- Valdespino (14/12/04) I taste a range from this producer.
- Vega Sicilia (23/12/03) A tasting of Unico and Valbueno from Spain's first growth.
See my other Spanish tasting notes for odd bottles that don't fit into my profiles.
