Prà

This estate is run by brothers Sergio and Graziano Prà. The former works the vineyards, whilst the latter operates the cantine. The estate occupies about 25 hectares of land in the Soave Classico DOC.

The wines include a very good Soave Classico, as well as an excellent unoaked cru Soave Classico Superiore Monte Grande. At the opposite end of the spectrum is their barrique influenced cru Sant' Antonio. They also produce a small amount of Trebbiano. (7/4/03)

2001

Prà Soave Classico Superiore 2001: The Prà brothers, Sergio and Graziano, run one of the top estates of Soave. Their unoaked cru Monte Grande recently featured in my weekly Taste of Italy feature. This is their more basic Classico Superiore cuvée. A fairly pale wine. Good aromas on the nose, which has white fruits rubbed on stones and minerals, with a suggestion of a creamy, bready richness. This comes through on the palate, which has a lees-influenced flavour profile and texture. Fresh acidity buoys up a full, mineral-laced palate which has a creamy edge. 16.5/20 (July 2003) Label

Prà Soave Classico Superiore Monte Grande 2001: This is the Prà brothers' unoaked cuvée. A pale golden yellow. The nose is very expressive and delightful, with plenty of lime and lemon fruit, white pepper spice, and a rich, bready opulence. This opulence shows through on the palate, which is rich and weighty, but nicely balanced with fresh acidity. There's plenty of ripe stone fruit and citrus flavours, and more spicy white pepper notes. Brilliant stuff. 16.5/20 (April 2003) Label

2000

Prà Soave Classico Colle Sant' Antonio 2000: Quite a rich colour here. A lovely and very expressive nose, with aromas of freshly baked bread with honey. Rich and ripe. Full palate, rich mouthfeel. A lovely combination of texture, flavour and very bright acidity. Minerally, juicy crystalline fruit and maybe a touch of crystallised ginger. Good strong finish. Delicious. 16.5/20 (September 2004)

1999

Prà Soave Classico Colle Sant' Antonio 1999: Pale golden hue. Baked bread nuances, perhaps barrique-derived, and minerals on the nose. The palate is delicious, full of stone and mineral flavoured white fruits, with superb, biting, food friendly acidity. Notes of lemon and thyme on the endpalate. This is brilliant, full-flavoured stuff. 17/20 (November 2003) Label
